As part of Zimmerman Chiropractic’s comprehensive approach to holistic health care, we offer acupuncture and scalp acupuncture in addition to chiropractic adjustments.
Traditional acupuncture is believed to be at least 2500 years old. Modern scalp acupuncture was developed in China in the 1970s when a neurosurgeon began to systematically chart out scalp areas that corresponded to areas of the brain.
For current chiropractic patients, Dr. Zimmerman may recommend acupuncture as a way to augment the healing process. Some patients come in specifically for acupuncture or scalp acupuncture.
What to Expect
Many people are apprehensive about the needles involved in acupuncture or scalp acupuncture. Acupuncture needles are completely different from the needles used to give injections or draw blood. They’re extremely fine, about the size of a hair, and most patients don’t even feel the needles being applied.
You’ll lie on the table and, depending on your condition or symptoms, Dr. Zimmerman will insert needles where energy pathways are blocked. These needles will remain in place for approximately thirty minutes.
Patients typically receive acupuncture three times per week for about six weeks, but your care plan will be tailored to your specific needs.
Scalp Acupuncture
Scalp acupuncture is less well-known than traditional acupuncture, but it is highly effective in providing relief from certain types of neuromusculoskeletal conditions and symptoms. We have seen dramatic improvement in mobility, pain, and function, in patients with conditions such as:
